SUPERIOR, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team cooled off in the second half Friday and saw UW-Platteville pull away for an 82-71 nonconference victory at Mortorelli Gymnasium.
  The game was part of the Merrill Thompson Classic, and Lawrence will Central College on Saturday.
  After shooting 55 percent from the floor in the first half, the Vikings shot 41.4 percent in the second half. Platteville pulled away midway through the second half and didn't let the Vikings get close down the stretch.

Nicolas Manzanera came off the bench and led a balanced Lawrence attack with 10 points.
Adnan Sarancic added nine points and had team highs with six rebounds and four assists for Lawrence (0-2).
Matthew Kaznikov and
Johnny Semany had eight points apiece, and
Nick Hesch and
Arnav Jain both had seven points.
  Platteville led by as many as six points in the opening half, but the Vikings went on a 10-3 run with five different players scoring to grab a 38-37 edge. Lawrence got jumpers from
Ryne Panzer and Sarancic to end the half with a 42-41 lead.
  The Vikings expanded the lead to 46-41 early in the second half on baskets from Sarancic and Hesch. Platteville (1-0) responded with a 21-3 run to take a 62-49 lead with 10:15 remaining.
  The Vikings chipped away at the lead and closed to within 11 points in the final minute but could pull no closer.
  Logan Pearson led Platteville and all scorers with 27 points.
