DE PERE, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's hockey team was edged 3-2 by No. 4 St. Norbert College on Friday in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Cornerstone Community Center.
  Lawrence got a goal with less than two minutes remaining to trim the margin to one, but the Vikings could not get the equalizer.
  St. Norbert (2-0-1, 1-0-0 NCHA) took the lead on Michael McCheney's power-play goal with 5:28 left in the opening period.
  Lawrence (0-3-0, 0-1-0) quickly tied it when
Akhmed Malsagov scored with 4:32 remaining in the first. Malsagov got a pass from
Cristian Tallarico and beat St. Norbert goaltender Johnny Roberts to tie the game at 1-1.
  The scoring wasn't over in the first as McChesney scored again with 2:12 left to give St. Norbert a 2-1 lead after one. After a scoreless second period, St. Norbert's T.J. Koufis scored on the power play at the 6:44 mark of the third to push the lead to 3-1.
  Lawrence wasn't done yet as defenseman
Kyle Gierman scored off assists from
Zack Olen and
Hugh Anderson with 1:57 left. The power-play goal gave the Vikings one last opportunity.
  The Vikings pulled goaltender
Brian Tallieu for the final 1:29 for an extra attacker, but St. Norbert held on for the win.
  Tallieu finished with 23 saves, and Roberts stopped 26 shots.
  The teams wrap up the series Saturday night at the Appleton Ice Center.Â
