BELOIT, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team rallied late Tuesday but came up short in a 50-47 Midwest Conference loss to Beloit College in the Midwest Conference opener at Flood Arena.
Cold shooting plagued the Vikings all night as they hit just 33.4 percent of their shots from the floor, including 21.4 percent (6-28) from 3-point range.Â
Lawrence trailed 47-39, but the Vikings rallied in the final minutes.
Matthew Kaznikov hit a 3-pointer to pull the Vikings to 47-44, and the Vikings got the ball back with a chance to tie but missed a 3-pointer.
The Bucs made a free throw to go up 48-46, and Lawrence's
Parker Prahl was fouled going to the basket on the next possession. Prahl made the first free throw with 10.0 seconds left but missed the second. Beloit was able to make two free throws to close out the win.
 Â
Adnan Sarancic led Lawrence (3-4, 0-1 MWC) with a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out. Prahl came off the bench to score 11 points and grab six rebounds, and fellow rookie
Nick Hesch added 11 rebounds to go with three points.
Azeez Ganiyu led Beloit (4-3, 1-0) with 10 points.
The Vikings return to action on Saturday when they host Grinnell College at Alexander Gymnasium.Â
