APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's basketball team jumped on Alverno College early Tuesday and rolled to a 72-39 nonconference victory over the Inferno at Alexander Gymnasium.
 Â
Emma Carlson led a balanced Lawrence attack with 16 points, and she added six rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks.
Mallory Meyer added 11 points, four rebounds and two assists for the Vikings (4-6).Â
 Â
Caroline Sharpe chipped in with nine points, a game-high eight rebounds and three steals for Lawrence.
Emma Moya picked up seven points, and
Lydia Lueck and
Delaney Brooks had six points apiece for the Vikings.
Lawrence led 13-11 late in the first quarter when the Vikings got a free throw from Meyer and a layup from Carlson to lead 16-11 heading to the second. That was the start of a decisive 20-0 scoring outburst that staked the Vikings to a 33-11 lead with 4:34 left in the first half.
Five Lawrence players scored during that run, and Sharpe scored six of her nine points in the game during that stretch. Carlson added five more and Meyer had four to help the Vikings take command of the game.Â
A pair of Mya Roberts free throws finally ended Alverno's scoring drought, which lasted 7:11.
Taylor Svoboda hit a jumper to counter for the Vikings, and Lueck and Brooks drained back-to-back 3-pointers. Carlson's jumper finished a 10-0 run to finish the half and stake Lawrence to a 45-13 lead at the break.
The Vikings quickly stretched the lead to 37 at 52-15, and Lawrence would lead by as many as 40 points as the reserves saw the bulk of the action in the final quarter. Fifteen players got in the game for Lawrence with 11 scoring at least two points.
Camaria Sardin led Alverno (1-8) with eight points. The Inferno was held to 28.9 percent shooting for the game, including 7.7 percent (1-13) from beyond the arc. Lawrence also forced 29 Alverno turnovers.
The Vikings return to action on Dec. 16 when they travel to Marian University.
