Lodes ties school record with five goals as Vikings double up Gustavus

SAINT PETER, Minn. -- Zach Lodes tied the Lawrence University record with five goals Friday to lead the Vikings to a 6-3 nonconference victory over Gustavus Adolphus College in a nonconference men's hockey game at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
Lodes scored three times in the second period for a hat trick and then added two more goals in the third as the Vikings rallied from a pair of two-goal deficits. The five goals ties the record of Mike Vernon, who set the mark vs. Illinois Benedictine on Nov. 21, 1998.
Lawrence (2-8-0) trailed 2-0 after Gustavus (0-8-2) scored early in the second period.
Lodes got his first goal of the night at the 4:24 mark of the second off assists from Ivan Galaguzov and Cole-Thomas Johnson to cut the margin to 2-1. The Gusties struck back for a goal at the 7:23 mark to push the lead back to 3-1.
Lodes pulled the Vikings closer at 3-2 when he scored a power-play goal off feeds from Maxim Plekhov and Hugh Anderson at the 9:33 mark. The Vikings went 1-for-2 on the power play, and Gustavus was 0-for-3.
The Vikings pulled even with just 10 seconds left in the second period when Lodes got the hat trick off passes from Will Crull and James Scott to tie the game at 3-3.
Johnson gave the Vikings the lead for good at 4-3 with his first career goal off assists from Galaguzov and Lodes just 2:27 into the final period. Lodes pushed the lead to 5-3 with a goal off assists from Jordan Cooper and Kyle Gierman at the 13:23 mark.
Lodes then finished the scoring off a feed from Jayden Jensen at the 15:37 mark for the final margin.
Owen Carlson stopped 25 shots to get the win for Lawrence. Zach Dosan made just 14 saves and took the loss for Gustavus.
Lawrence wraps up its weekend swing through Minnesota with a game Saturday at St. John's University.
