Lawrence rallies for OT win over Concordia

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team scored late in regulation Friday to tie it and then scored in overtime to win it 4-3 over Concordia University Wisconsin in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Appleton Ice Center.
The Vikings trailed 3-2, but a big penalty against Concordia gave the Vikings an opening. Lawrence scored with 3:27 left in regulation and then won it less than two minutes into overtime.
Four different players scored for the Vikings, and Matt Meininger had a pair of assists for Lawrence (9-9-3, 7-6-2 NCHA).
Alex Mosquera stopped 19 shots to pick up the win for the Vikings, and Liam McGarva made 50 saves for Concordia. Lawrence had a 54-22 edge in shots on goal.
The Vikings trailed 1-0 after one period as Concordia (2-17-2, 1-12-1) scored with just four remaining in the opening period.
Lawrence tied the game when Hugh Anderson scored his first collegiate goal on a shot from the point at the 8:21 mark of the second. Will Robertson and Tyler Jensen picked up assists, and the score was tied 1-1.
It took Lawrence an additional 65 seconds to take the lead. Ivan Galaguzov scored at the 9:26 mark with Zack Olen and Meininger picking up assists for a 2-1 advantage.
The lead didn't last long as Concordia tied it at the 10:30 mark, and the Falcons took a 3-2 lead on Alex Way's goal at the 16:07 mark.
Lawrence still trailed when Tyler Pang was whistled for a five-minute major penalty for contact to the head with just 5:53 left in the contest.
Lawrence cashed in on the ensuing power play when Lodes found the upper corner of the net with 3:27 left in regulation. Meininger and Cory Checco both picked up assists on the score.
In the 3-on-3 overtime, Lawrence got Olen, Lodes and Kyle Gierman on the ice together and some magic happened. Olen took the puck from Gierman and circled through the area between the circles. The Concordia defense backed away a bit, and Olen skated in on McGarva and beat him on the glove side less than two minutes into overtime for the game-winner.
The win gave Lawrence two points in the league standings, and the Vikings are now just two points away from fourth place. The teams wrap up the series on Saturday at Concordia.
