Box Score 2 Â Â WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Lawrence University baseball team started its spring break trip with a nonconference doubleheader split against Hope College on Saturday.
  The Vikings won the nightcap 12-8 after dropping the opener 10-8 to the Flying Dutchmen.
  In the second game, Lawrence (3-1) jumped out to a 9-0 lead before Hope rallied. The Vikings got a great relief effort from
Jonah Palmer and tacked on three insurance runs to grab the victory.

Jeffery Cambra went 4-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Vikings, and
Zach Leslie was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Taylor Freeman added a double and drove in two runs for Lawrence.Â
  Palmer tossed 3.1 innings of hitless relief, struck out five and walked three to pick up the victory.Â
  The Vikings jumped on Hope starter Matt Plaehn with five runs in the top of the first. After
Spenser Ross reached on a fielder's choice, he came around to score on Cambra's single for a 1-0 lead. After walks to
Quinn Berglin and
Jacob Charon loaded the bases, Freeman doubled to score Ross and Berglin and Lawrence led 3-0. Leslie followed with another double to score Charon and Freeman, and the Vikings were up 5-0.
  Lawrence made it 6-0 in the second when Ross walked and came around to score on Cambra's single.
  The Vikings tacked on three more runs in the third on just one hit. Charon and Freeman walked, and Leslie singled to load the bases. After a balk scored Charon, Freeman came home on a passed ball. Leslie then scored on an error, and the Vikings led 9-0.
  Lawrence starter
Michael Duttlinger ran into trouble in the third when Hope (8-2) trimmed the lead to 9-4. The Dutchmen added four more runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 9-8 before Palmer came on in relief.
  The Vikings stretched the lead back to four with three runs in the top of the fifth. Walks to Leslie and
Jake Land put a pair of runners on base, and
Colin Wieska followed with a double to score Leslie. A pair of wild pitched brought both Land and Wieska around to score, and Lawrence led 12-8.
  Palmer worked around a pair of walks in the fifth, retired the side in order in the sixth and worked around an error in the seventh to close out the win.
  In the opener, Lawrence trailed 9-3 before rallying to tighten up the game in the late innings.
  Charon went 3-for-4 with a homer, three runs scored and two RBIs, and
Parker Knoll was 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs. Leslie went 2-for-3 with a double, and he drove in a run.Â
  Hope took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but Lawrence tied it in the bottom half of the inning. Charon got things started with a two-out single, and he later scored on an error. Hope led 2-1 in the third, but Lawrence tied it again in the bottom of the inning. Knoll singled and stole second before coming home on Ross' run-scoring single.
  Hope scored three times in the fourth for a 5-2 lead, but the Vikings got one back in the bottom of the inning.
Edan Perez singled and later scored on Knoll's single to cut the margin to 5-3.
  The Dutchmen then scored four times in the fifth for a 9-3 advantage. Lawrence trimmed the lead to 9-5 when Charon blasted a two-run homer after Freeman had started the rally with a double.
  Hope pushed the lead to 10-5 in the sixth, but the Vikings weren't done yet. Ross walked to lead off the bottom of the sixth, and Cambra followed with a single. Berglin singled to score Ross, and Leslie's sacrifice fly scored Cambra to trim the lead to 10-7.
  Lawrence edged closer in the seventh when Charon singled and later scored when Knoll reached on an error. The Vikings had the tying run at the plate before Hope closed out the game.
  Berglin made the start and allowed five hits and five runs over 3.2 innings.Â
  Lawrence returns to action on Sunday when the Vikings take on Bowdoin College.
