APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University softball team picked up a Midwest Conference doubleheader split with Knox College on Thursday at Whiting Field.
  Lawrence won the first game 5-2, and Knox took the nightcap 13-1 in five innings as the battled very breezy conditions.

Jordan Wallin-Swanson went 2-for-2 with a double and drove in a run. She also pitched the first four-plus innings to get her first collegiate victory for the Vikings. Wallin-Swanson worked into the fifth inning, allowed two hits and one run while striking out one and walking four.
Shelby Johnson pitched the final three innings to pick up the save.

Lizzy Jorgensen went 2-for-3 and drove in a run, and Johnson drove in a pair of runs with a double.
  Lawrence (3-25, 1-5 MWC) got on the board in the bottom of the second when
Mattigan Haller led off with a double. Wallin-Swanson walked and both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt. Jorgensen singled to score Haller, and Johnson then laced a double to the left field corner to score Wallin-Swanson and Jorgensen for a 3-0 lead.
   Knox (2-23, 1-11) got a run back in the top of the fifth, but the Vikings struck for two runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Mikayla Jeneske reached on a throwing error and moved to second on a bunt.
Mary Boyle singled to score Jeneske for a 4-1 lead. Haller then reached on a fielder's choice and swiped second. Wallin-Swanson followed with a double to score Haller, and the Vikings led 5-1.
  Knox got a run against Johnson in the seventh, but Johnson induced a game-ending double play to seal the victory.
  In the second game, Knox pitcher Mimi Schweitzer limited Lawrence to six hits over five innings to get the win.
  Boyle and
Alyssa Sorensen both went 2-for-3, and Sorensen drove in a run for the Vikings.
  Knox led 1-0 before stretching the lead with four runs against Lawrence starter
Lizzy Angemi in the fourth inning. The Prairie Fire then scored eight times in the fifth to end the contest.
  Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings travel to Grinnell College.
