GRINNELL, Iowa -- The Lawrence University softball team dropped both ends of a Midwest Conference doubleheader at Grinnell College on Saturday.
  Grinnell won the opener 9-1 in eight innings and took the second game 8-0 in five innings.
  In the first game, Grinnell scored five times in the first to take control early. The Pioneers were up 6-0 before Lawrence scored in the top of the sixth on
Mattigan Haller's one-out homer. Haller went 2-for-2 and also picked up a double.Â
  The Pioneers then scored three times in the bottom half of the inning to end the contest.
  Kathryn Vermeulen went the distance and got the win for Grinnell (13-14, 7-3 MWC).
Xiomara Rueda-Marshall allowed eight hits over five innings and took the loss for the Vikings (3-27, 1-7).
  In the second game, Grinnell again jumped on top early with three runs in the first and added two more in the second. The Pioneers closed the game out with three runs in the fifth.Â
  Maddy O'Bryan allowed just one hit to get the victory.
Chapin Grumhaus' lead-off single in the third was the only blemish for the Grinnell pitcher. LIzzy Angemi gave up 11 hits over 4.1 innings and took the loss.
  Lawrence is back in action on Sunday when the Vikings face Illinois College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.  Â
