APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University softball team dropped both games of a Midwest Conference doubleheader against Beloit College on Wednesday at Whiting Field.
The Buccaneers won the opener 14-2 in five innings and took the second game 4-1.
In the second game, the Vikings outhit Beloit and got a solid pitching performance from
Lizzy Angemi. Angemi allowed six hits and two earned runs over seven innings while striking out five and walking none.
Lawrence (3-31, 1-11 MWC) had seven hits against Cora Aubert but no Viking had more than one hit in the contest. The Vikings did strand eight runners and left the bases loaded in the opening inning.
Beloit (11-20, 6-8) led 1-0 before Jeneske tripled to start the third. She scored on
Khayla Santiago's swinging bunt to tie the game at 1-1. Beloit then picked up three runs in the fourth on just one hit but got help from a pair of Lawrence errors.
Lawrence had the tying run at the plate in the sixth and had another runner on in the seventh but couldn't pull any closer.
In the opener, Lawrence led 2-1 headed to the fourth inning before Beloit scored six times in the fourth and seven times in the ffith to close out the contest.
Jeneske went 3-for-3 with a homer and scored twice to pace the Vikings.
Lawrence took the lead in the opening inning when Jeneske and
Mary Boyle reached on a pair of infield singles.
Mattigan Haller then smacked a double to score Jeneske for a 1-0 lead. Beloit tied it in the second, but the Vikings grabbed the lead back in the third.
Jeneske led off the third with rocket over the left field fence for her fifth home run of the season and a 2-1 lead.
Beloit then rapped out eight hits in the fourth and six more in the fifth to pull away.
Xiomara Rueda-Marshall went the distance and took the loss for the Vikings, and Maddy Pfortmiller picked up the win for Beloit.
