Vikings drop tough battle with Viterbo

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's soccer team battled strong and senior-laden Viterbo University before falling 2-0 Sunday in a nonconference match on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Viterbo got one goal in each half and both came off corner kicks. The V-Hawks' Benian Yao scored at the 32:42 mark on a redirect off a corner. Sammy Ankaoglu then scored off a corner kick at 60:43 when the ball was directed to him, and he pinballed a shot through the box for a 2-0 edge.
Lawrence rookie goalkeeper Nason Lancina made eight saves, including several of the spectacular variety, to keep the Vikings (1-3-1) close. Ernesto Ascenzo made two saves for Viterbo (7-0-0), which listed nine fifth-year seniors on its roster.
