Lawrence roughs up Muskies

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team put on a dominating performance Sunday in a 3-0 nonconference victory over Lakeland University on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Lawrence owned a 15-3 edge in shots, and Lawrence goalkeeper Ella Lysne was forced to make just one save in recording her first career shutout.
The Vikings (2-3-0) jumped on the board just 9:36 into the match. Rookie Erica Grube sent a cross into the box, and Cambrie Rickard directed the ball past Lakeland goalkeeper Haley Rich for a 1-0 lead.
Lawrence tacked onto that lead before halftime. Natalie Linebarger's pass connected with Emma Vasconez, who scored at 39:06 for a 2-0 advantage.
Madi Jones sealed the win in the 70th minute with her second goal of the season for the Vikings. Jones took a pass from Sophia Morin and scored at 69:29 for a 3-0 lead.
Rich, who was injured and left the match for nearly 15 minutes, finished with seven saves. Faith Turley allowed one goal and made one save in relief for Lakeland (3-2-0).
