Vikings are road warriors in victory at UW-Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team notched an impressive nonconference win on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over UW-Oshkosh at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
The Vikings scored twice in the opening half and kept Oshkosh off the board until the 69th minute.
Lawrence got the scoring started at the 14:11 mark when Natalie Linebarger scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Cambrie Rickard for a 1-0 lead.
The Vikings (3-3-0) doubled the advantage 14 minutes later. The Titans were whistled for an infraction in their penalty box, and Rickard stepped up to take the ensuing penalty kick. Rickard hammered the shot past Oshkosh goalkeeper Mallory Kerhin at the 28:50 mark for a 2-0 advantage.
Lawrence kept that lead until an own goal at the 68:39 mark cut the margin to 2-1.
The Lawrence defense held fast, and Sarah Yochem made a pair of saves, one on a hard low shot and the other on a header, in the final eight minutes to preserve the win. Yochem finished with six saves for the Vikings, and Kerhin made four saves for Oshkosh (2-2-2).
The win over Oshkosh is the first for Lawrence since a 2-1 victory in 1999. The victory is another marker of the great turnaround in the Lawrence program since Joe Sagar took over as head coach. In the season before Sagar arrived, Lawrence lost to Oshkosh 10-0 in 2017. Since Sagar's arrival, Lawrence is 1-1-1 against the Titans.
It doesn't get any easier for the Vikings as they face Augustana (Ill.) College on Saturday on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
