APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team picked up another big nonconference victory Saturday with a 1-0 win over Augustana (Ill.) College on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Fresh off a 2-1 win at UW-Oshkosh three days earlier, Lawrence got a goal from
Emma Vasconez in the 83rd minute to knock off Augustana.
Lawrence (4-3-0) was on the attack, and
Natalie Linebarger played the ball toward the net. Augustana goalkeeper Janey Castoe got her hands on the ball, but it caromed a few feet in front of her in in the penalty box. Vasconez seized the opportunity and knocked the ball past Castoe and into the back of the net at 82:45 for her second goal of the season.Â
Lawrence did a nice job of killing off the final seven minutes, and Augustana was unable to mount a serious scoring threat in the final minutes.
Augustana (4-3-0) did have several quality chances in the game. Augustana's Liesl Whitener hit the post with a shot in the opening half, and another Augustana shot went just wide of the post in the second half. Augustana had an 11-5 advantage in shots.
  Lawrence goalkeeper
Sarah Yochem kept Augustana off the board with six saves to earn her first shutout of the season. Castoe made two saves for Augustana.Â
The difficult nonconference matches just keep coming for the Vikings as they face Loras College on Tuesday in the Banta Bowl.Â
