APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team lost a 1-0 heartbreaker Saturday to Lake Forest College in a Midwest Conference game on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
The Foresters scored the game's only goal with eight minutes remaining and hung on for the victory.
Both teams had scoring chances prior to the late goal.Â
In the opening half, Lake Forest goalkeeper Maggie Kersting was more than 30 yards away from the net when she lost control of the ball. Kersting was able to narrowly clear the ball away as the Vikings tried to pounce on the opportunity.
Lawrence (4-5-0, 0-1-0 MWC) had its best scoring chance early in the second half when
Cambrie Rickard was taken down in the penalty box. Rickard took the ensuing penalty kick but it sailed wide of the right post, and the Foresters dodged another bullet.
Lake Forest (4-3-3, 1-0-0) scored after a scramble in front of the net as Lawrence goalkeeper
Sarah Yochem disrupted the play. Anna Gracia regained control of the ball and it gently nudged the post and trickled across the goal line for the lone goal of the contest.
Yochem was outstanding in net and made seven saves for the Vikings. Kersting made two saves for Lake Forest.
