Lawrence can't hold off Bucs

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's basketball team lost an early lead Wednesday, and Beloit College pulled away for a 69-53 Midwest Conference victory at Alexander Gymnasium.
Lawrence built a nine-point lead early and led by as many as nine before Beloit rallied. The Bucs led by one at the half and then outscored Lawrence 39-24 after the break.
Lydia Lueck had her second consecutive 20-point game as she finished with 20 points and two rebounds to pace the Vikings. Emma Carlson posted her third consecutive double-double and seventh of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds for Lawrence (6-13, 2-8 MWC). Carlson also added a pair of blocks.
Lawrence went 7-for-13 from the floor in the opening period to build an 18-9 lead after one quarter. Beloit rallied over the final eight minutes of the second quarter to turn an eight-point deficit into a 27-26 lead with 1:38 left before halftime. The Bucs led 30-29 at halftime.
The Vikings kept it close until midway through the fourth quarter. After Carlson hit a jumper with 5:30 left in the game to trim the lead to 51-45, Beloit pulled away.
The Bucs scored the game's next nine points to grab a 60-45 lead with 3:13 remaining. Lawrence, which was plagued by 25 turnovers, never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way.
T'Aira Boyance led Beloit (7-12, 3-8) with 15 points and was one of four Bucs to score in double figures.
Lawrence returns to action Saturday when it travels to Lake Forest College.
