LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Lawrence University men's hockey team forced overtime Saturday night at Lake Forest College but the Foresters pulled out a 4-3 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory.
Lawrence rallied from a two-goal deficit in the second period and later scored to tie it in the final minute of regulation.
The Vikings were down 2-0 midway through the second period before
Cory Checco cut into the deficit. Checco took a great feed from
Kyle Gierman and beat Lake Forest goaltender Nick Wiencek with 4:41 left in the second period.
Checco then tied it less than minutes later with his second goal of the night.
Ryan Williams picked up his second assist of the game and
Jordan Cooper also got an assist as Checco's wrist shot got past Wiencek with 2:11 remaining in the second to tie the game at 2-2.
The Foresters (9-8-4, 6-5-3 NCHA) jumped back on top when Connor Scahill scored just 1:38 into the third period. The score stayed 3-2 until Lake Forest was whistled for its second too many men on the ice penalty of the night. Those were the only two penalties called on Lake Forest.
That put the Vikings on the power play with 1:49 left in regulation. Lawrence pulled goaltender
Brian Tallieu to create a 6-on-4 power play for the Vikings.
 Â
Will Crull scored on the power play with 46 seconds left to tie the game at 3-3 and force the five-minute, 3-on-3 overtime.
Lawrence picked up a pair of good shots early in the overtime, but a turnover proved costly. Griffen Sanom converted on the chance when he scored 1:25 into the overtime.
Tallieu stopped 40 shots for the Vikings, and Wiencek made 26 saves for Lake Forest. Â
