APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's soccer team rallied in the second half Wednesday, but Carroll University posted a 3-1 nonconference victory on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Carroll controlled much of the play in the opening half and raced out to a 3-0 lead at the half.Â
Lawrence came out strong in the second half and generated some solid scoring chances. The Vikings then cashed in at the 65:24 mark.
 Â
Rodrigo Angulo sent a ball forward and
Leo DeCorte beat Carroll goalkeeper Sam Kilsdonk to the ball and slid it past him and into the net to trim the margin to two goals. It was DeCorte's first collegiate goal.
Both teams had good scoring chances in the final 25 minutes. Carroll hit the post twice, and Kilsdonk was forced to make one point-blank save to keep the Vikings off the board again.
Angulo got loose deep in the Carroll penalty box, but Kilsdonk was able to make the save. Lawrence's
Kala Velasco was unable to connect on the rebound. A few minutes later,
Eamon Rougvie was able to beat a pair of Carroll defenders to launch a low shot that just missed wide.
  Lawrence goalkeeper
Nason Lancina made nine saves, and Kilsdonk stopped four shots for the Pioneers.Â
