APPLETON, Wis. -- A big second period Friday doomed the Lawrence University men's hockey team in a 6-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association loss to Aurora University at the Appleton Ice Center.
  Aurora led 2-1 after the opening period but scored three times in the second to take command. Aurora had a 32-26 edge in shots for the game, but the Spartans went 3-for-6 on the power play. The Vikings were 0-for-2 on the man-advantage.
  The Vikings answered quickly after Aurora scored just 4:37 into the game. Lawrence's
Jeb Dee picked up his first collegiate goal when hhe scored at the 5:32 mark off assists from
Cory Checco and
Ethan Beaumont to tie the game at 1-1.
  Aurora then got a goal that just trickled into the net with 36 seconds left in the opening period to take a 2-1 lead after one.Â
  The Spartans then scored three times in a span of 4:11 in the first 10 minutes of the second period to push the lead to 5-1. Aurora tacked on another goal just 1:05 into the final period.
  Jacob Mucitelli made 25 saves to get the win for Aurora.
Owen Carlson made the start and allowed five goals while stopping 12 shots.
Nolan Mahaffey played the final 29:22 for Lawrence and made 14 saves while allowing one goal.
  The teams wrap up the series Saturday night in Appleton.
