APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's hockey team scored early in the third period Saturday to break a tie and went on to a 2-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory over MSOE at the Appleton Ice Center.
  Lawrence (2-1-1, 1-0-1 NCHA) picked up four points on the weekend after an overtime tie on Friday at MSOE.
  The game was tied 1-1 headed to the third period, and the Vikings took advantage after a faceoff in the MSOE zone. Lawrence won the draw, and
Evan Izenstark moved the puck back to
Cory Checco at the point. He slid the puck over to
Cole Schneider, whose blast from above the circles went past MSOE goaltender Austin Schwab at the 3:32 mark to give the Vikings a 2-1 edge.

Nolan Mahaffey was outstanding in net as he stopped six shots in the final period to preserve the victory.
  The Raiders made a final attempt to get the equalizer after they killed off a penalty. Kevin Paganini was whistled for hooking with 4:10 remaining, and the Raiders pulled Schwab shortly after getting back to full strength.
  Lawrence cleared the puck several times and had to withstand a final faceoff to the right of Mahaffey with three seconds left. Lawrence pushed the puck into the corner and the final seconds ticked away.Â
  Mahaffey finished with 29 saves to grab the victory. Schwab stopped 26 shots for the Raiders.
  Lawrence took the lead midway through the second period when
Jack Michels scored at the 11:08 mark.
Kyle Gierman and
Robby Pustulka picked up assists on the goal. MSOEÂ (2-1-1, 0-1-1) tied it on Preston Park's goal with 1:37 left in the second period.
  The Vikings went 0-for-5 on the power play, and MSOE was 0-for-3. The Raiders were 1-for-11 on the man-advantage in the two-game series.
