Vikings nipped at River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's hockey team endured another tight loss on Thursday as UW-River Falls edged the Vikings 4-3 in a nonconference game at Hunt Arena.
Lawrence now has four one-goal losses on the season, including three in the last four games.
The Vikings built a 2-1 lead midway through the second set, but River Falls scored two goals in the span of a minute late in the period to take the lead back for good.
Lawrence trailed 1-0 when Max Wigfield scored his first career goal for the Vikings at the 7:48 mark of the second period. Jayden Jensen and Adam Brzezicki picked up assists on the tying goal.
River Falls' Anthony Biniaris was sent off for cross checking at the 9:36 mark of the second, and the Vikings cashed in. Cody Brekke scored on the ensuing power play with Ethan Beaumont and Cristian Tallarico picking up assists. Brekke's third goal of the season gave Lawrence a 2-1 edge at the 10:48 mark.
The Falcons then scored at 15:28 and 16:29 to grab a 3-2 advantage heading to the third period. River Falls pushed the lead to 4-2 with a goal 5:23 into the second, but Lawrence wasn't done yet.
River Falls' Arsenii Smekhnov was whistled for cross checking at 7:29 to put the Vikings back on the power play. Beaumont scored at 9:22 off assists from Tallarico and Miles McCue to cut the lead to one.
Lawrence went 2-for-3 on the power play, and the Falcons were 1-for-2.
The Vikings were hunting for the game-tying goal and pulled goaltender Owen Carlson for the final 2:37 but couldn't get the equalizer. Carlson finished with 32 saves for Lawrence (3-9-1), and Dean Buchholz had 28 for River Falls (7-5-0).
