Vikings fall in series finale at River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's hockey team dropped a 4-2 nonconference decision to UW-River Falls on Friday at Hunt Arena.
Lawrence scored two consecutive goals to pull within a goal midway through the third period, but the Falcons added an insurance goal in the final game of the series.
The Vikings trailed 3-0 late in the second period when River Falls' Valentino Passarelli was sent off for roughing at 16:43. Lawrence cashed in on the ensuing power play just over a minute later. Jayden Jensen stuffed home the puck for his first goal of the season as Cole Schneider and Carter Cloutier picked up assists on the power-play goal at 17:57.
Lawrence (3-10-1) was back on the power play in the third period after the Falcons' Anthony Biniaris was whistled for interference at the 6:50 mark. Jack Michels took a pass from Hugh Anderson and scored for the Vikings at 8:43 to trim the lead to 3-2.
Lawrence went 2-for-3 on the power play, and River Falls was 0-for-3.
River Falls then got a goal from Noah Roofe at 11:27 to push the lead back to 4-2.
The Vikings pulled goaltender Nolan Mahaffey in the final minute but couldn't get any closer. Mahaffey finished with 32 saves, and Dysen Skinner stopped 20 shots for the Falcons (8-5-0).
