APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team pulled away over the final 10 minutes Saturday to post a 67-54 nonconference victory over Marian University at Alexander Gymnasium.
  First-year players
Casey Schoenecker and
Nicholas Gouriotis led the way for the Vikings. Gouriotis had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Schoenecker scored a game-high 18 points to go with seven rebounds and a pair of assists.Â

Liam Graham added 10 points, and rookie guard
Hogan Demovsky had eight points, eight rebounds and two assists. Â
  Defense showed the way for the Vikings as they held Marian to 28.8 percent shooting from the floor, including 25.8 percent on 3-pointers. Lawrence (2-11) shot 48.5 percent from the floor and shot 79.5 percent from the foul line. Lawrence went 31-for-39 from the stripe while Marian connected on just 12-of-19 from the line.
  The Vikings were up by three midway through the second half when they scored seven consecutive points. Graham started the run with a layup, and Gouriotis followed with a layup to give the Vikings a 41-34 edge. Demovsky then buried a 3-pointer to push the lead to 44-34 with 9:29 left.
  Lawrence's lead hovered between seven and nine points for several minutes before the Vikings increased their advantage. Lawrence was up 48-41 when Schoenecker made a pair of free throws with 6:14 left to start a 10-2 burst. Gouriotis picked up a three-point play to push the lead to 53-41, and Graham followed with a pair of free throws. After two free throws by the Sabres, Demovsky and Gouriotis both hit a pair of free throws to give Lawrence a 59-43 lead with 3:38 left.Â
  Marian got as close as 11 points three times after that, but the Vikings went 7-for-8 from the foul line in the final 1:49 to seal the victory.
  Lawrence jumped on the Sabres from the outset as the Vikings scored the game's first 12 points. Marian battled back and took a 21-20 lead with 7:44 left in the first half. The Vikings would come back to take a 26-23 lead the the half.Â
  Tavaris McCullough led Marian (0-11) with 11 points.
