Berglin, Leslie power Vikings past Otterbein

WESTFIELD, Ind. -- Quinn Berglin tossed five innings of one-hit baseball on Sunday, and Lawrence University jumped out to an early lead in a 7-2 nonconference victory over Otterbein University at Grand Park.
Berglin allowed only a fifth-inning single and faced just one batter over the minimum for the first five frames as he picked up the victory. Berglin struck out six and didn't walk a batter. Conner Robertson and Elden Santana pitched the final four innings and allowed just one hit between them. Santana struck out four and didn't walk a batter in the final two innings.
Lawrence (1-2) had only six hits, but the Vikings put them to good use and took advantage of five walks.
The Vikings grabbed the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second. Jacob Charon started the inning with a single, and Edan Perez followed with a double. After William Zatkowski walked to load the bases, Jeremy Peddle was hit by a pitch to score Charon. Luke Miles later delivered a sacrifice fly to score Perez and Lawrence led 2-0.
Lawrence added three more runs in the third after Taylor Freeman walked to start the inning. Zach Leslie belted a two-run homer, and the Vikings had a 4-0 advantage. Lawrence then manufactured a run when Charon walked, went to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a fly ball and scored on Zatkowski's sacrifice fly for a 5-0 edge.
Otterbein (3-1) started the fourth by hitting Jake Land and Miles followed with a walk to put Vikings at first and second. Freeman's ground-rule double then scored Land, and Leslie's groundout scored Miles to give Lawrence a 7-0 lead.
Otterbein cut the lead to five with two runs in the seventh, but Santana came on in the eighth and worked two perfect innings.
