Vikings sweep doubleheader from Carleton

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Lawrence University baseball team swept a nonconference doubleheader from Carleton College on Tuesday at US Bank Stadium.
The Vikings rolled to a 12-3 victory in the opener and posted an 8-2 win in the nightcap.
In the first game, Parker Knoll went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and scored two runs to pace the Vikings' 11-hit attack. Lawrence's Edan Perez also went 2-for-3 with a homer, scored three runs and drove in a pair.
Jacob Charon also homered for the Vikings, scored twice and drove in a pair. Jeremy Peddle went 2-for-2 with a double, scored two runs and drove in a run for Lawrence (3-2).
Lawrence got a fine start from pitcher Elden Santana, who allowed only two hits over five innings to pick up the win. He struck out eight and walked just one.
The Vikings led 3-0 before breaking the game open with seven runs in the fourth. Jake Land singled to score Perez, and Mitchell Sandleback grounded into a fielder's choice to score Peddle for a 5-0 edge.
Knoll then blasted a three-run homer to give the Vikings an 8-0 lead. Zach Leslie walked two batters later, and Charon followed with a two-run bomb, and the Vikings led 10-0.
The Vikings were up 10-3 headed to the sixth when Charon reached on an error and Perez followed with a two-run blast for the final margin.
In the second game, Lawrence jumped on the Knights (0-2) with four runs in the first.
Carleton starting pitcher Quinn Brannan didn't record an out but was tagged for all four runs. The Vikings used a walk, two hit batsmen and a wild pitch to score their first run. Charon followed with a single to score Taylor Freeman for a 2-0 lead. A wild pitch scored Leslie, and William Zatkowski's groundout scored Charon for a 4-0 edge.
The Vikings made it 5-0 in the second on Leslie's single that scored Alex Tanaka. Lawrence tacked on two more runs in the third when William Polanco smacked a run-scoring single and Freeman doubled to score Polanco for a 7-1 lead. The Vikings added another run in the fifth for the final margin.
Leslie went 2-for-3, scored a run and drove in a run for the Vikings, who took advantage of eight walks and six hit batsmen from five Carleton pitchers.
Nick Katz put together a solid effort for the Vikings to pick up his first collegiate win. Katz went five innings, allowed three hits, struck out three and walked one. Connor Robertson tossed two innings of one-hit relief to finish for the Vikings.
