RIPON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team dropped a second consecutive nail-biter to Ripon College in a 57-53 setback to the Red Hawks at Weiske Gymnasium.
Lawrence led 53-52 heading into the final minute, but the Vikings came up empty on the next two possessions. Ripon won the game at the foul line with five free throws in the final 39 seconds.
Elliot Jung led Lawrence (8-14, 5-8 MWC) and all scorers with 22 points as he went 8-for-13 from the floor, including 2-for-2 from beyond the 3-point line. Jung also added seven rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.
Parker Prahl grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to go with seven points for the Vikings. Arnav Jain came off the bench to score seven points, and Matthew Kaznikov had six for the Vikings.
Jaylen Mahone led Ripon (11-10, 7-5) with 17 points.
Ripon led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but the Vikings went on a 13-2 run to grab a 25-24 lead. Jung had eight points to start the run, including back-to-back 3-pointers. The Vikings trailed 27-26 at the half.
Lawrence went on another big run midway through the second half as the Vikings turned a 35-33 deficit into a 43-35 lead with a 10-0 outburst. Jain scored all seven of his points during the run and Adnan Sarancic capped it with a 3-pointer.
Ripon rallied and would go on to lead 52-45 before four straight points from Jung and baskets by Prahl and Nick Hesch gave Lawrence a 53-52 lead with 1:00 left.
The Red Hawks got two free throws from Luke Meinholz to go up 54-53 with 39 seconds left. Jung drove to the basket but his shot didn't fall, and Ripon grabbed the rebound.
