Vikings drop pair to Mount Mary

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University team dropped both ends of a nonconference doubleheader Monday to Mount Mary University at Whiting Field.
Mount Mary won the opener 10-6, and the Blue Angels took the second game 6-0.
In the first game, a five-run sixth inning by Mount Mary proved to be the difference. Lawrence (5-21) rallied for five runs of its own over the final two innings but it wasn't enough.
Mikayla Jeneske went 3-for-4 with a double, drove in three runs and scored a run for the Vikings. Janessa Gonzalez went 2-for-4 and scored three runs for Lawrence.
Mount Mary (7-20) built a 10-1 lead through the top of the sixth when Kourtney Mercer collected a run-scoring single and Jordan Wallin-Swanson tacked on a sacrifice fly to trim the lead to 10-3. Jeneske then smacked a three-run double in the seventh to trim the lead to 10-6 before Mount Mary got the final two outs to end the threat.
Xiomara Rueda-Marshall allowed six hits and two earned runs over 5.2 innings and took the loss. Brianna Lupa went the distance to pick up the win.
In the second game, the Vikings struggled against Elise DeGraef, who allowed five hits, struck out four and walked one to get the win. Mercer gave up 11 hits and four earned runs over six innings and took the loss.
Taylor Hughes went 2-for-2 to pace the Vikings in game two.
