Lawrence drops pair to Lady Blues

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The Lawrence University softball team lost a Midwest Conference doubleheader at Illinois College on Saturday.
The Lady Blues took the opener 14-1 in five innings, and Illinois College held on for a 4-2 win in the nightcap.
In the first game, Mary Boyle went 2-for-2 as the Vikings (5-23, 1-5 MWC) were limited to just four hits by Illinois College starter Julia Drake. Drake struck out 10 and didn't walk a batter.
Xiomara Rueda-Marshall pitched the first three innings for Lawrence and took the loss.
In the second game, Lizzy Angemi turned in a solid pitching performance for the Vikings. She allowed six hits over six innings and just two earned runs. She struck out three and walked three.
Illinois College (13-10-1, 6-0) led 4-0 before the Vikings struck for two runs in the sixth. Janessa Gonzalez started the rally with a one-out walk, and Mikayla Jeneske followed with a single. Kourtney Mercer then singled to score Gonzalez to cut the lead to 4-1. Jordan Wallin-Swanson followed with another single to score Jeneske to trim the margin to 4-2.
Illinois College was forced to bring Drake on in relief and she struck out the final two batters of the inning to escape further damage. Drake worked a perfect seventh to record the save.
