Lawence falls twice to Scots

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University baseball team dropped a Midwest Conference doubleheader to Monmouth College on Saturday at Whiting Field.
Lawrence dropped an 11-8 heartbreaker in the first game and fell 9-4 in the nightcap.
In the opener, Edan Perez went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, three runs scored and three runs batted in for the Vikings (9-18, 5-11 MWC). Jacob Charon went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Lawrence, and Nick Heerde and Mitchell Sandleback both went 2-for-4. Sandleback and Parker Knoll both scored a pair of runs.
Lawrence built an early 5-1 lead before Monmouth scored twice in the fourth and four times in the fifth to grab a 7-5 lead. Perez then blasted a two-run homer in the seventh to tie the game at 7-7.
Lawrence took an 8-7 lead in the eighth when Charon doubled to score Knoll, who had reached on an error. Monmouth then rallied for four runs in the ninth on just one hit as the Vikings walked five batters in the frame.
Toby Turnquist got the win with two innings of relief, and Shane Foley took the loss in relief for the Vikings.
In the second game, Knoll went 3-for-5 with a homer and a double, scored once and drove in a run. William Polanco went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for the Vikings.
Lawrence scored twice in the first on Polanco's two-run single, but Monmouth tied it in the third and took a 3-2 lead in the fifth. Knoll then hit a long, opposite field home run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 3-3.
Monmouth took the lead back in the seventh and put the game away with five runs in the ninth.
Jeff Garrett went seven innings to pick up the win for Monmouth (12-18, 7-11), and Jonah Palmer took the loss in relief despite three strong innings.
The teams wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at Whiting Field.
