Vikings lose pair at Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. -- The Lawrence University softball team dropped a Midwest Conference doubleheader at Knox College on Sunday.
Knox edged the Vikings 5-3 in the opener, and the Prairie Fire won 8-0 in five innings in the nightcap.
In the first game, the Vikings had six hits scattered among six players with Janessa Gonzalez and Gillian Guerriero both picking up a double.
Lawrence (5-27, 1-9 MWC) trailed 5-0 before rallying in the top of the seventh.
Lizzy Angemi started the inning with a walk, and Mattigan Haller followed with a single. Gonzalez followed with a double to score Angemi, and Mikayla Jeneske then grounded out to score Haller and trim the lead to 5-2. Kourtney Mercer then walked and an error later in the frame allowed Gonzalez to score, but Knox did get a critical out on the play. A fly out finally ended the threat with the tying run at the plate.
Ally Hyde allowed six hits over seven innings to get the win, and Angemi went the distance and took the loss.
In the second game, Mimi Schweitzer tossed a one-hitter for Knox (9-21, 5-7). She struck out two and didn't walk a batter. The only hit Schweitzer allowed was a fifth-inning single to Mercer.
Xiomara Rueda-Marshall allowed 12 hits and only four earned runs over 4.1 innings and took the loss.
