Lawrence rally comes up short against Pointers

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University baseball team rallied late Thursday but came up short in an 11-6 nonconference loss to No. 23 UW-Stevens Point at Whiting Field.
Lawrence center fielder Parker Knoll tied his own school record with five hits in the contest. Knoll went 5-for-6 with a homer, two runs batted in and a run scored.
Jake Land and Luke Miles both went 2-for-3 for the Vikings and both players drove in a run.
Lawrence trailed the Pointers 4-0 before Knoll led off the bottom of the fifth with a homer to left. Stevens Point (21-9) pushed the lead to 7-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh. Land started the seventh with a single and came around to score on Knoll's single to cut the lead to 7-2.
Four runs by the Pointers in the eighth seemed to put the game away, but Lawrence got a run back in the bottom half of the inning when Miles singled to score William Polanco. The Vikings continued to rally and had the bases loaded with one out when the Pointers got a double play to get out of the inning.
Lawrence then loaded the bases with one out in the ninth. Edan Perez scored on a wild pitch and Polanco's ground out scored Jacob Charon. Land then doubled to left to score pinch-runner Alex Tanaka and trimmed the lead to 11-6. Miles was hit by a pitch so two runners were aboard when Knoll came up to bat, but Sidney Ferry finally retired Knoll to end the threat.
Nathan Krommenakker worked 2.2 innings of relief to get the win. Jonah Palmer started for the Vikings allowed three runs on four hits over four innings. He struck out six and walked four in his first start of the season.
