APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead Saturday, but Lake Forest College rallied for a 2-2 Midwest Conference tie on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
The Vikings (8-3-2, 3-0-1 MWC) scored twice in the opening 15 minutes, and Lake Forest picked up on first-half goal and then tied it with just under 20 minutes remaining.
In a battle of first-place teams,
Maya Alberts got Lawrence on the board at the 13:53 mark when she scored off a cross from
Natalie Linebarger for a 1-0 edge.Â
The Vikings quickly expanded that lead when Linebarger fired another beautiful ball across the goal mouth, and
Ava Elders redirected it into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead at the 14:59 mark.
Anna Gracia scored both goals for the Foresters, the first at 22:14 and the second at 72:44.Â
Both teams had quality scoring chances in the final 15-plus minutes but neither squad could cash in.
  Lawrence goalkeeper
Ella Lysne made 11 saves for the Vikings, and Franca Finch made one save for Lake Forest. Lake Forest had a 15-8 edge in shots for the match.
Lawrence returns to action with a nonconference match against UW-La Crosse on Tuesday.
