MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The Lawrence University volleyball team dropped a tight three-set decision at Monmouth College on Saturday in a Midwest Conference match.
  Monmouth topped the Vikings 25-22, 25-20, 25-19 at Glennie Gymnasium.
  First-year hitter
Hazel Cook the led attack for the Vikings with 13 kills, and she picked up nine digs, two aces and a block. The Scots limited Lawrence's
Margaret Hahnke to eight kills on 40 attacks, but Hahnke also picked up seven digs, two aces and four assists.

Cora Linos piled up 21 assists and added six digs and two blocks. Libero
Daphne Piotrowski had a team-best 11 digs for the Vikings.
  The Vikings trailed just 21-20 in the opening set, but Monmouth won three of the next four points and then closed out the set. In the second set, Lawrence had rallied to trail 12-11, but the Scots went on a 9-3 run to take control. The Vikings battled back to trim the lead to 24-20 before the Scots got final point for a 2-0 lead. In the third set, Monmouth raced out to a 14-4 lead. Lawrence chipped away at the advantage and trimmed the lead back to 23-19 before the Scots closed out the match.
  Lawrence returns to action next Friday when the Vikings travel to Beloit College.
