APPLETON, Wis. -- A young Lawrence University men's basketball team played a veteran squad from St. Norbert College tough in a nonconference game Wednesday at Alexander Gymnasium, but the Green Knights rallied late for a 68-62 victory.
The Vikings (1-2) were down two but missed their next four shots from the floor, and St. Norbert (1-0) held on for the win.
 Â
Nicholas Gouriotis led Lawrence with 14 points as he went 4-for-7 from beyond the 3-point line, and he grabbed six rebounds.
Jasper Padia added 13 points and three rebounds for the Vikings, and
Landon Key had 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.Â
Jamison Nickolai led St. Norbert with a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Lawrence built a 39-28 lead early in the second half after Gouriotis hit a pair of 3-pointers and
Nolan Koch added a layup. Led by a pair of 3-pointers from Jaeden Grade, St. Norbert trimmed the margin to 41-40.Â
The Vikings built the lead back to 52-45 before another Grade 3-pointer, and the Green Knights tied the game at 52-52 with 8:52 remaining. St. Norbert built a 64-57 lead before Padia's layup started a Lawrence rally. Key then drilled a 3-pointer to cut the margin to 64-62 with 2:39 remaining.
The teams traded missed baskets before
Caleb Nash drew an offensive foul for the Vikings with 1:30 remaining. Nash then missed a 3-pointer, but Nickolai also missed a trey for St. Norbert. Lawrence had another chance to take the lead but Padia's 3-pointer was off the mark, and the Vikings were forced to foul.
Nickolai missed the front end of the bonus, and Lawrence grabbed the rebound. Nash went hard to the basket but his layup came up short. The Green Knights then went 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final 17 seconds to seal the victory.
Lawrence returns to action on Monday when the Vikings travel to Marian University.
