KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's basketball team endured a cold shooting night Wednesday and dropped a 71-44 nonconference decision to Carthage College at Tarble Arena.
  The Firebirds (1-1) pulled ahead in the second quarter, and Lawrence (1-1) wasn't able to dent in the deficit in the second half.

Taylor Svoboda came off the bench to score 10 points to pace the Vikings. Svoboda went 4-for-6 from the floor, including 2-for-3 from 3-point range. First-year forward
Olivia Kesti added eight points and five rebounds for Lawrence, and

Mallory Meyer had six points apiece.Â
  Lawrence shot just 26.5 percent from the floor, including 28.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Emma Carlson, now a graduate student at Carthage, scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Firebirds.
  Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings host St. Norbert College.Â
