ASHLAND, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's hockey team scored four times in the opening period Friday and pushed on to a 5-2 nonconference victory over Northland College at the Bay Area Civic Center.
  In the season opener for both teams, Lawrence gave up the first goal of the game but struck back quickly and kept on going. It was also the first victory for new Lawrence head coach Rylee Orr.
  After Nik Johnson scored for the Lumberjacks 4:14 into the first, the Vikings rapidly tied the score.
Jayden Jensen scored just seven seconds later off a pass from
Ethan Beaumont to tie the game at 1-1.

Cody Brekke gave the Vikings the lead for good two minutes later when he scored off passes from
PJ Noonan and
Josh Danis at 6:31.Â

Tiziano Pauchard got his first collegiate goal at the 10:11 mark of the first off a pass from
Jack Michels, and that proved to be the game-winner.
Jex Sheffield then scored his first collegiate goal off a pass from
Vladimir Fadeev with 40 seconds left in the first for a 4-1 lead.
  Northland cut the lead to 4-2 with a goal in the second, but Lawrence picked up an insurance goal in the third. Danis scored with 9:29 left in the third with assists going to
Robby Pustulka and
Akhmed Malsagov for the final margin.

Nolan Mahaffey made 16 saves to pick up the win for the Vikings. Andrew Yocum stopped 39 shots for the Lumberjacks.
  Lawrence travels to UW-Stout for another nonconference game on Saturday.
