OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team knocked off Clarkson University 79-74 on Saturday in a nonconference game at the Oberlin Tip-Off Tournament.
    Lawrence had four players score in double figures and shot 50 percent from the floor in the game at Phillips Gymnasium.
    
Nathan Valentine poured in 25 points for the Vikings to lead all scorers. Valentine went 10-for-14 from the floor, including 5-for-7 on 3-pointers. 
    
Nicholas Gouriotis added 14 points for the Vikings as he hit 4-of-7 shots from 3-point range. 
Landon Key picked up 11 points and seven rebounds for Lawrence, and 
Jasper Padia had 10 points. 
    Lawrence (1-1) jumped out to a 12-point lead in the opening half, and Valentine's layup gave the Vikings a 35-25 lead at the break.
    Padia and Gouriotis both hit 3-pointers to start the second half as the lead grew to 41-25, but Clarkson answered with a scoring run and trimmed the margin to 45-44 with 13:20 remaining. The teams exchanged scoring runs with the Vikings going back up by 10 before Clarkson cut the lead to two.
    Lawrence was up 67-62 when Padia scored and Valentine followed with a layup for a 71-62 edge with 2:02 remaining. Clarkson would get as close as 73-70 with 24 seconds left before being forced to foul. Lawrence went 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final 23 seconds to seal the victory.
    Braeden Burns scored 24 points to lead Clarkson (0-2).
