Vikings finish off Beloit

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University baseball team finished off Beloit College 9-4 on Wednesday in the completion of a Midwest Conference game that was halted the previous week by rain.
Lawrence led 5-2 through the opening three innings in the game at Beloit when rain forced the stoppage. The Vikings added four more runs to their total at Don Hawkins Field to pull away for the victory.
Jacob Charon went 2-for-5 with a home run, drove in three runs and scored twice for the Vikings (23-8, 14-2 MWC). Tate Hartlaub went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored for Lawrence.
Parker Knoll, Ben Gutowski and William Zatkowski all had two hits for the Vikings, and Edan Perez homered for Lawrence.
Nate Leonard started for Lawrence and picked up where he left off on Wednesday. Leonard went six innings, allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out four and walking three. Leonard improved to 3-0 on the season.
The Vikings led 5-2 before the game was halted thanks to run-scoring hits by Taylor Freeman and Zatkowski in the second, but the big blow was Charon's three-run homer in the third.
Lawrence added an unearned run in the fifth and then scored two more in the sixth when Hartlaub delivered a two-run double to give the Vikings an 8-4 lead. Perez then led off the seventh with a solo blast, and the Vikings were up by five.
Cam Ruth worked two scoreless innings to finish the game for the Vikings.
