GRINNELL, Iowa -- The Lawrence University softball team battled hard on the road Friday but dropped a Midwest Conference doubleheader to Grinnell College at the Grinnell Softball Complex.
  Grinnell won the opener 6-0, and the Pioneers rallied to win the nightcap 8-6.
  In the second game,
Jordan Wallin-Swanson went 2-for-3 and drove in a run, and
Kourtney Mercer drove in a pair of runs for the Vikings.
  Lawrence (14-22, 5-11 MWC) scored three times in the second to ake a 3-1 lead without the benefit of a base hit. A bases-loaded walk to
Mattigan Haller drove in the first run,
Janessa Gonzalez's groundout scored the second run and Mercer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in a third.
  The Vikings tacked on three more runs in the fourth to grab a 6-3 lead. A walk, a single and an error loaded the bases, and Wallin-Swanson singled to score
Zoe Doherty for a 4-3 lead. Mercer then singled to score Haller, and
Khayla Santiago picked up a bases-loaded walk to score Gonzalez for a three-run advantage.
  Grinnell rallied to score five times in the eighth to grab back the lead for good.

Lizzy Angemi allowed only four earned runs, struck out two and walked two for the Vikings.Â
  In the first game, Grinnell (23-13, 12-2) scored three times in the second and three times in the third for the only scoring of the game.Â

Avery Chilson allowed six runs on nine hits, struck out six and walked two for the Vikings. Lawrence was limited to five hits in the game.
