MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The Lawrence University football team hung with Monmouth College for the first half Saturday at Bobby Woll Memorial Field, but the Scots pulled away after the break for a 52-6 Midwest Conference victory.
  Lawrence trailed just 14-6 midway through the second quarter before Monmouth grabbed a 21-6 edge at the half. The Scots scored twice in the third quarter to pull away and seal the victory.
  The Scots (2-1, 2-0 MWC) limited Lawrence's offensive attack. Running back
Jack Delzer carried 20 times for 54 yards, and quarterback
Aidan Williams was 8-for-18 for 71 yards Lawrence.
Alex Lippert was the top receiver for the Vikings (0-3, 0-2) with four catches for 48 yards.
  Lawrence put together its best drive of the day early in the second quarter. The Vikings moved 70 yards in 18 plays for a touchdown to cut Monmouth's lead to 14-6. Three Monmouth penalties helped keep the drive alive, and Lippert caught a 15-yard pass to get things started. Delzer made some tough yards running inside the Monmouth 10-yard line, and Williams plunged in from a yard out for the touchdown.

Kolbe Gelvin led the Lawrence defense with 12 tackles, including nine solo stops. Defensive lineman
Carter Rivers added seven tackles for the Vikings, and
Jacob Stanley had five.
Joe Gardner and
Jahlan Paul. It was the second interception of the season for Paul, who is in his first year at Lawrence, and the first career interception for the sophomore Gardner.
  Lawrence returns to action on Oct. 5 when the Vikings host Grinnell College.Â
