APPLETON, Wis. --
Nicholas Gouriotis poured in a career-high 25 points Tuesday to lead the Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 69-57 Midwest Conference victory over Beloit College at Alexander Gymnasium.
Gouriotis went 9-for-16 from the floor, including 5-for-10 from 3-point range, to set a new career high. His previous best was 21 points against Grinnell College a season ago.
 Â
Casey Schoenecker added 13 points and pulled down a team-best nine rebounds to go with two assists for the Vikings (5-14, 3-7 MWC).
Caleb Nash dished out a team-best five assists for Lawrence, and
Nathan Valentine led the Vikings with three steals.Â
Gouriotis powered the Lawrence attack in the opening half as he went 7-for-11 from the floor, including 4-for-7 from 3-point range, on his way to 18 points at the break. The Vikings only trailed once by a single point in the first half and led by as many as seven before settling for a 37-32 lead at the break.
Lawrence quickly built the lead to double digits at 43-33 on
Landon Key's layup before Beloit rallied to trim the margin to six points. That was as close as the Bucs would get.
  The Vikings countered with a
Nolan Koch layup and a three-point play from Schoenecker for a 53-42 advantage. Beloit did get the deficit back to single digits, but Lawrence went on a quick 7-2 run, capped by Nash's 3-pointer, to push the lead to 62-48 with 4:18 remaining.
Beloit trimmed the lead back to nine at 64-55, but the Vikings sealed the victory at the foul line. Lawrence went 7-for-8 from the stripe in the final 1:22 to secure the win.
Jabari Scuefield had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to pace Beloit (6-13, 2-9).
Lawrence is back at home on Saturday when the Vikings take on Lake Forest College.Â
