Lawrence romps past Bucs

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's basketball team used a stifling defensive effort and cruised to a 64-37 Midwest Conference victory over Beloit College on Tuesday at Alexander Gymnasium.
Lawrence, which has won seven of its last eight games, limited Beloit to 18.2 percent shooting from the floor. The Bucs hit on 10-of-55 shots from the field and went just 4-of-32 on its shots from inside the 3-point line.
Maggie Culver paced Lawrence (14-5, 8-2 MWC) with 13 points as she went 5-for-9 from the floor, and she pulled down seven rebounds. Olivia Kesti added 11 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds for the Vikings.
Mallory Meyer and Charlotte Brennan added seven points apiece for the Vikings, and Meyer added six rebounds with Brennan collecting three boards. Meyer now has 917 career points and is just 25 points from catching Gina Seegers for ninth place on the career list.
Lawrence jumped on Beloit early and built a 14-4 lead after the first quarter. The Vikings poured it on in the second quarter and went on an 18-5 run to grab a 34-15 lead at the half.
The Vikings then held Beloit to just seven points in the third quarter as they pushed the advantage to 48-22 heading to the fourth. Lawrence would go on to lead by as many as 32 points in the final quarter.
This marks the fourth time this season Lawrence has held an opponent to 40 points or less. The 37 points is the second-lowest point total for an opponent this season.
Hailey Johnson led Beloit (2-18, 1-10) with nine points.
Lawrence will be at home again on Saturday when the Vikings host Lake Forest College.
