APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's basketball team put together a strong defensive effort Saturday to carve out a 62-50 Midwest Conference victory over Lake Forest College at Alexander Gymnasium.
  The Vikings forced 19 Lake Forest turnovers and held the Foresters to under 20 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

Sophie Morey paced Lawrence (15-5, 9-2 MWC) with 15 points, and
Mallory Meyer added 12 points, seven rebounds and two steals.Â

Charlotte Brennan added seven points and a game-high eight assists for the Vikings, and
Maggie Culver grabbed nine rebounds.
Kate Adams chipped in with eight points, three rebounds and two assists for the Vikings.
  The Vikings trailed late in the first quarter, but a three-point play and another layup by Morey gave the Vikings the lead at 16-14. Lake Forest rallied for a 27-26 lead, but
Taylor Svoboda hit a 3-pointer for the Vikings, and
Caroline Sharpe followed with another 3-pointer to put Lawrence up 32-27 at the half.
  Adams hit a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter, including one in the final seconds of the period, to give Lawrence a 49-41 edge heading to the fourth. Lawrence scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter, capped by Meyer's layup, to pull out to a 58-41 advantage.Â
  Lake Forest never got closer than the final margin of 12 points.
  Rebecca Christodoulou led Lake Forest (3-16, 2-9) with 23 points.
