FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- Maggie Culver scored five of her career-high 23 points in overtime Saturday to lead the Lawrence University women's basketball team to an 80-75 nonconference win over Marian University at Sadoff Gymnasium.
Culver went 11-for-19 from the floor and made it a double-double with a game-high 13 rebounds along with picking up a game-high five steals.
Mallory Meyer added 17 points, five rebounds and two assists for Lawrence (9-4), and Charlotte Brennan picked up 12 points, a game-high six assists, three rebounds and two assists. Sophie Morey also was in double figures for the Vikings with 10 points to go with five rebounds.
Lyla Bartol poured in a game-high 27 points for Marian (3-8).
The teams swapped the lead in the opening half, but Lawrence led by as many as nine at 39-30 in the third quarter. The Sabres stormed back to take the lead in the third, but Lawrence led 51-50 heading to the fourth.
It was tight in the fourth, and Culver gave Lawrence a 68-67 lead with 56 seconds left in regulation. The Sabres tied it on a McKayla Goebel free throw and then took a 71-68 lead on a pair of free throws by Lexi Brakebush with nine seconds left.
Kate Adams answered for the Vikings with a 3-pointer to tie it at 71-71 with six seconds remaining. The Sabres missed a pair of shots in the waning seconds that would have given them the win.
Culver got things started for the Vikings in overtime with a jumper for a 73-71 advantage. A pair of Adams free throws followed by a Culver jumper gave Lawrence a 77-72 edge with just 47 seconds left. Following a Marian miss, the Sabres were forced to foul.
Lawrence went just 3-for-6 from the foul line in the final 33 seconds but that was enough to secure the win. The Lawrence defense was the key in overtime as the Vikings forced five turnovers and limited Marian to just 1-for-5 shooting from the floor.
Lawrence returns to Midwest Conference play on Wednesday when the Vikings host Monmouth College.
