Vikings battle but falls short versus Bulldogs

ADRIAN, Mich. — Lawrence UniversityĀ  fell to Adrian CollegeĀ  7-3, in a conference matchup at Adrian, Michigan. The Vikings managed a power-play goal in the third period but could not overcome Adrian's offensive pressure.

The first period commenced with both teams taking to the ice, as Lawrence faced off against Adrian. The Vikings' defense, led by goalie Nolan Mahaffey, held strong early, successfully saving multiple attempts from the Bulldogs' offense. However, Adrian broke through at 8:58 with a goal by Patrick Saini, assisted by Alec Lovisek, to take the lead. The Vikings struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, with several shots saved by Adrian's goalie, Nolan Suggs. Despite efforts from Lawrence players like Alex Hollands and Josh Danis, Adrian extended their lead with a second goal by Ian Amsbaugh at 1:18. The period concluded with the Bulldogs leading 2-0.

Lawrence faced a challenging second period as Adrian capitalized on power-play opportunities, widening their lead. The Bulldogs' Jacob Suede scored on a power play at 16:18, followed by Ayden Peters' even-strength goal at 13:36. The Vikings responded with an even-strength goal from Jayden Jensen at 8:32, assisted by Cade Dewolf and Logan Schwartzhoff, briefly reducing the deficit. Later, Ethan Johnson added another for Lawrence at 4:00, with assists from Hunter Bill and Dewolf, bringing the score to 5-2. However, Adrian's Patrick Saini closed the period with a goal at 00:25, ending the frame with a score of 6-2 in Adrian's favor.

In the third period, Lawrence capitalized on a power play opportunity at 9:19 when Hayden Johnson scored with assists from Michael Valdez and Hollands, narrowing Adrian's lead to 6-3. Despite multiple power play opportunities and sustained pressure, the Vikings were unable to close the gap further. The period concluded with an empty net goal by Adrian's Jacob Suede with just seven seconds remaining, finalizing the score at 7-3 in Adrian's favor.Ā
