Gouriotis and Schoenecker propels Vikings to season opening win

PLYMOUTH, Wis. — Lawrence (1-0, 0-0 Midwest Conference) secured a decisive victory over Lakeland University (0-1, 0-0 NACC), 93-79, at the Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium. The Vikings dominated the boards with a 50-32 rebounding advantage, contributing to their strong performance.

The game commenced with both teams trading early baskets, establishing a tightly contested first half. Nicholas Gouriotis made an early impact with a 3-pointer at 18:48, responding quickly to an initial scoring burst from the Muskies. Casey Schoenecker helped seize the momentum for Lawrence with key plays in the paint, including a layup at 17:33, contributing to a back-and-forth battle that saw multiple lead changes. The bench made a significant contribution, adding 14 points to the Vikings' tally.

As the half progressed, Lawrence capitalized on their opportunities in the paint, leading to a slight edge. At the close of the first half, the Vikings held a narrow 40-38 lead over Lakeland.

Lawrence started the second half with momentum, highlighted by Schoenecker's early layup, which set the tone for a strong offensive performance.
