Vikings fall on the road to the Raiders

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Lawrence University (1-2-0, 0-1-0) fell to Milwaukee School of Engineering (2-1-0, 1-0-0), 5–1, on the road Friday night. 

MSOE controlled the opening period, securing a 1-0 lead over Lawrence through aggressive play. The home team won 16 faceoffs compared to the visitors' six, enabling them to maintain possession and generate 15 shots, though only one resulted in a goal by Ethan Thombs at 10:18. Lawrence's attempts to capitalize on two power plays were thwarted by MSOE's defense and goaltending, with Austin Schwab turning away all shots faced.

MSOE extended their lead early in the second period with a power-play goal from Adam Smith at 18:13, capitalizing on Lawrence's penalty, and then added an even-strength goal by Jackson Hughes at 6:53. Despite the deficit, the Vikings responded with a power-play goal by Roman Cherniak at 3:20, narrowing the score to 3-1 by the end of the period. Throughout the period, Lawrence managed to hold their ground by winning several faceoffs and blocking shots, while the Raiders maintained pressure with frequent attempts on goal.

Lawrence was unable to capitalize on several opportunities in the third period, despite winning numerous faceoffs and generating multiple shots on goal. MSOE extended their lead to 5-1 with a power-play goal by Jackson Hughes at 13:59 and an even-strength goal by Casey Roepke at 3:45. Lawrence's power-play chances were thwarted, as MSOE's defense and goaltender Austin Schwab consistently turned away shots to maintain their advantage through the final period.

Ethan Look excelled in face-offs, winning 13 of 18 for a 72 percent success rate. Cherniak scored a power-play goal and maintained a strong presence in face-offs, winning 12 of 17 attempts. Cody Brekke appeared efficient in face-off situations, winning his only attempt. Ethan Johnson contributed an assist and registered three shots on goal.
