Vikings roll Eagles to continue hot start to the season

Wisconsin Dells, Wis-- Lawrence University (9-1, 3-0 Midwest Conference) defeated Edgewood College (5-5, 3-0 NACC), 72-49, in a neutral site matchup on Friday afternoon. The Vikings capitalized on the Eagles' 21 turnovers, converting them into 13 points, while maintaining a 36-22 advantage in points in the paint.

Lawrence started the first quarter with strong execution, as Charlotte Brennan opened with a layup and converted a free throw, giving the visitors an early lead. The Vikings' defense forced multiple turnovers, capitalizing on Edgewood's mistakes, while Brennan added a 3-pointer to extend the advantage. Olivia Kesti's fast-break layup further solidified the lead, with Sophie Morey contributing in the paint. Brennan closed the quarter with another layup, ensuring the Vikings maintained momentum. They led 14–7 at the end of the first quarter, establishing a confident advantage.

Lawrence opened the second quarter with a decisive momentum shift, led by Kate Adams who drained two 3-pointers early, contributing to a strong offensive start. The team maintained control throughout, capitalizing on turnovers and converting them into points, highlighted by Maggie Jarzemsky's steal that set up a scoring opportunity. Brennan facilitated the offense effectively, recording multiple assists, including a key setup for a Josie Eager 3-pointer. With consistent scoring from the paint and perimeter, the Vikings extended their lead significantly. The team demonstrated efficiency, shooting 11-of-14 from the field, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. As the quarter closed, they solidified their dominance with a 27-15 run, leading 41-22 by halftime.

Lawrence opened the third quarter by capitalizing on defensive efforts, with Adams contributing a block just 41 seconds in. Despite the Eagles' early attempts to narrow the lead, the Vikings maintained control with key plays in the paint, securing 6 points. Midway through the quarter, Brennan's layup at 4:53 helped sustain a comfortable margin. Morey and Josie Chose effectively contributed on both ends, with Morey scoring in the last two minutes to extend the lead. The quarter concluded with Kesti's jumper at 4 seconds left, ensuring the Vikings held a 57–41 advantage over Edgewood heading into the final quarter.

Lawrence opened the fourth quarter with defensive tenacity, forcing Edgewood into several missed shots and turnovers. Morey capitalized on an offensive rebound to score a layup, extending the Vikings' lead early. Midway through the quarter, Chose contributed with a layup assisted by Adams, pushing the score further in their favor. As the quarter progressed, the Vikings' defensive pressure continued to stifle Edgewood's offense. Emma Moya added to the scoring with consecutive free throws, and Eager's 3-pointer further widened the gap. Lawrence maintained control, ending the quarter with a jumper from Kylie Loomis. The Vikings closed the game with a 72–49 victory, outscoring the Eagles 15–8 in the fourth quarter.
