Vikings secure road win versus Stars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. — Lawrence University (7-3, 1-2 Midwest Conference) secured a decisive 75-61 victory over Dominican University (IL) (1-10, 1-3 NACC) at the Igini Sports Forum on Saturday night. The Vikings' defense was highlighted by five blocks, contributing to their commanding win.

Lawrence opened the first half with a strong scoring run, highlighted by Nathan Valentine's back-to-back 3-pointers. The Vikings' effective shooting maintained their momentum, as they capitalized on points in the paint and fast breaks, outscoring the Stars with a total of 18 points in the paint. Their offensive efforts were supported by defensive rebounds, with the team collecting 17 defensive boards, limiting the Stars' second-chance opportunities.

As the half progressed, the Vikings' consistent scoring and strong defensive play extended their lead. CJ Campbell added to the tally with a key 3-pointer, and Casey Schoenecker contributed crucial baskets to keep the pressure on the home team. Lawrence closed the half leading the Stars 40-30, demonstrating a well-rounded performance on both ends of the court.

In the second half, Lawrence maintained their lead, opening with a 3-pointer by Hogan Demovsky at 18:44 and extending their advantage. Nicholas Gouriotis contributed crucial free throws to keep the momentum with the Vikings. The team capitalized on defensive rebounds and strong shooting from beyond the arc, including a 3-pointer by Gouriotis at 12:26, extending the lead further.

Lawrence's defensive efforts included four blocks and two steals, disrupting the Stars' attempts to close the gap. Despite the Stars' efforts, including a late 3-pointer by Dominic Crapia at 1:39, Lawrence successfully maintained control. The half concluded with Lawrence leading 75–61, setting a solid pace into the next phase of the game.
