Strong defensive performance leads Vikings over UW-Stout

OSHKOSH, Wis. — Lawrence (8-4, 1-2 Midwest Conference) secured a 70-57 victory over Wis.-Stout (4-7, 0-0 WIAC) on Monday night at Oshkosh Arena. Lawrence dominated the paint with 30 points, contributing to their decisive win.

Lawrence started strong with a series of successful plays, quickly establishing momentum. Nathan Valentine contributed significantly by hitting a 3-pointer and completing a free throw early on. CJ Campbell and Casey Schoenecker also added to the scoring, facilitating an early lead over Wis.-Stout.

The team maintained control through effective shooting from beyond the arc, with Nicholas Gouriotis and Hogan Demovsky adding to the advantage. Lawrence demonstrated solid defense, limiting Wis.-Stout's attempts and capitalizing on turnovers to maintain their edge.

As the half closed, Valentine capped the first half with another 3-pointer, ensuring Lawrence held a 37–22 lead at the end of the half.

Lawrence began the second half maintaining their momentum with a quick three-pointer by Gouriotis, assisted by Valentine, which helped to build on their lead. The home team showcased effective offensive execution with multiple scoring drives, including layups by Schoenecker and Caleb Nash. Their defensive efforts were highlighted by defensive rebounds, with Lawrence outrebounding Wis.-Stout 19 to 12 on the defensive end.

As the half progressed, Lawrence continued to capitalize on fast break opportunities and points in the paint, extending their lead. Demovsky contributed significantly with a three-pointer and a layup in the final minutes. Despite Wis.-Stout's attempts to close the gap, Lawrence maintained their advantage, ending the game with a final score of 70-57 and the Vikings securing the win over the Blue Devils.
